Good to know when renting with SIXT
To rent a car with SIXT in South Africa, the renter must present a valid driver's license and an ID card or passport. Original English-language licenses are accepted without an international driving permit. If your license is not in English, you will need an official translation to go with the original license. SIXT also offers Chinese translation support.
Photocopies, digital licenses, learner's permits, and licenses with restrictions are not accepted.
The minimum age to rent is 18 for most categories, 21 for selected mid-size premium vehicles, and 25 for luxury and specialty vehicles. Depending on the category, you will need to have held your license for 2, 3, or up to 5 years. A young driver surcharge applies under the age of 21.

One-way rentals are allowed within South Africa, and across our stations in Namibia and Botswana with the right permit. Cross-border trips need written permission and 72 hours' notice; fees apply, and premium vehicles are not permitted to cross borders. One-way rentals to other countries are not available.
